Movavi - Video Editor & Maker App Reviews
This is an easy app to use
The only downside, and my sound editing software has it, add an ability to put markers.
Even an old man like me ..63 years old….could use it with ease…not always the case with me. I edit some of my competition in slow motion in order to see the details more clearly for coaching….outstanding
I hung on to my old favorite Imovie HD until it would not work with Yosemite, then tried the new Imovie…for now at least I do NOT like the new format and methodology in the latest iMovie. Saw Movavi doenlaoded and made a moive within 5 minutes. Movavi is Not entirely intuitive and seems to be missing some features I liked in Imovie HD, but gave it 4 stars becuase of overall ease of use. Will come back and review further when I have used it more.
After suffering through several complicated video editing software programs (for the Mac), I found Moviavi simple to use. It is not as robust as the windows version and has limitation in file type.
The program does what it says it will do, but be aware that this is version 1.2 and the CURRENT version (which has a more robust interface and the ability to create and add titles) is 2.1. Moreover, if you read the glowing reviews of the software online youll see that its the Windows version being described- with features like tilt-shift, filters, and chromakey that are apparently unavailable to Movavis Mac users. If you only need to edit and join clips, add transitions, and do minor video adjustments youll be okay (assuming you get this at a deeply discounted price). If your project is more ambitious, look elsewhere.
I have been trying out movie editors ever since the new guys at Apple started messing with iMovie. Starting with Mavericks, someone who had never used a movie editor decided to redesign iMovie. By the time they reached El Capitan, iMovie became unusable if you wanted to edit your own videos. I guess if you dump your iPhone video into iMovie it makes videos for you with canned music. Not my thing. So, I started examining video editors that could meet a few basic requirements; It has to have basic, easy to understand, commonly used operator controls. It must never crash or stumble or in any way disrupt creative flow with interuptions of any sort. And lastly, it must be intuitive and fun. Movavi has met all my requirements and is now my basic goto video editor.
My daughter needed to edit a video for a school project. There was no learning curve it was so easy and we had a lot of fun adding sound and video effects.
Caveat, I am not a pro video editor, but have mokeyed around with quite a few programs. The things Movavi does well, it does very well. Import, export, trimming clips and adding transitions between clips. However, there is very basic functionality missing too (or it’s right in front of my face and I can’t see it). For instance, being able to add transitions to the overlay pictures, or even a fade/transition in for the very begining of the video. If I can’t make that happen the program is almost useless to me. (again, it might be possible, but in the 30 minutes of me trying I cannot get the intro to fade in). As others have said, if you just want basic editing, this is a good program, but if you want to try and get really creative, you might want to look elsewhere.
